Robin Hood's Bay, North Yorkshire

Special guest of Steve Phillips and his band The Rough Diamonds

Special guest of Steve Phillips and his band The Rough Diamonds

I'm doing an impromptu gig at The Grosvenor Hotel, Robin Hood's Bay on Tuesday March 7th as special guest of the legendary Steve Phillips and his band The Rough Diamonds.

It's only a short set but looks to be a fun night.

Robin Hood's Bay
´A small picturesque village which fits snugly into the steep cliffs on the North Yorkshire coast´

The area

Surrounded by moorland and fields on three sides and the sea on the other. Over the centuries ‘Bay’ has seen many a shipwreck in the wild seas and smugglers hurrying between houses at the dead of night.

North Yorkshire National Park

There are many walks and outstanding views to enjoy, and with much of the coastline now managed and owned by the National Trust and being within the North Yorkshire Moors National Park, it is one of the most beautiful areas of England.

Bay Town

'Bay’ as it is known locally, is just 5 miles from Whitby, famous for being the home of Captain Cook and regularly visited today by tall ships. With ‘Heartbeat’ country practically on the doorstep, and less than 15 miles from the bustling seaside town of Scarborough, there is always something to do in or around Bay, whether visiting for the annual ‘Folk’ and ‘Victorian’ weekends, or the Gospel weekend in Whitby. Or maybe you will reach Bay and dip your feet in the sea having bravely trodden the 190 mile ‘Wainwrights’ coast to coast walk from St. Bees.

The Grosvenor Hotel

The 'Grosvenor' was purposely built as a hotel in the late 1890´s and is located at the top of the village where the Victorians built their 'superior dwellings' having moved from the cramped 'cottages' in the lower part of 'Bay'.

Guest of John Shuttleworth

I have been asked to make a guest appearance with Graham Fellows AKA John Shuttleworth/Jilted John,at Sheffield City Hall on March 30th. It should be a fun filled evening.

My Last Will and Tasty Mint

John Shuttleworth hits the road following appearances on Celebrity Antiques Roadshow and the second series of Radio 4's John Shuttleworth’s Lounge Music for his farewell tour.

A recent health scare (well, a mild bout of sciatica) has made “Sheffield’s finest singer/songwriter” (The Times) focus on his mortality, and the many things he needs to do before the inevitable move into a hospice. Can sole agent, Ken Worthington pull out the stops and make John a star before his retirement?

As well as hilarious new songs, John will bash out the favourites on his trusty Yamaha: . And at the end of it all, a question remains: who should John donate his organs to, or should he just sell them on Ebay?

“Punch The Air To Character Comedy In A Class Of Its Own” The Sunday Times.

Exclusive to the City Hall, John Shuttleworth is joined by Sheffield's own punk icon, Jilted John in a rare appearance with his band performing the 1978 classic hit, Gordon Is A Moron, plus other songs. This follows a triumphant appearance at the UK's premier punk rock festival, Rebellion last August. "Ere we go, 2, 3, 4 !"

Tickets for John Shuttleworth (subject to booking fees) at Sheffield City Hall are available online at www.sheffieldcityhall.co.uk through the ticket hotline on 0114 2 789 789 and in person at the Sheffield City Hall Box Office.

The Stables
is situated in a beautiful rural setting in Wavendon, just to the south east of Milton Keynes and a short drive from central Milton Keynes.

Wavendon Allmusic Plan Ltd (WAP), a registered charity, was founded in 1969 by the world-renowned jazz musicians Dame Cleo Laine and Sir John Dankworth, with an aim to provide a centre of musical activity which would break down barriers between music genres and introduce music to as many people as possible regardless of age or social background.

The vision was realised with the development of The Stables Theatre, in some outbuildings at their home, as a venue for concerts and education activities. In October 2000, the new Stables Theatre opened its doors on a 398 seat auditorium which now presents over 200 concerts and over 200 education sessions each year.

A handling charge of £2.80 applies to all bookings. Online bookings are also subject to a £1.80 per ticket processing fee.

The Ropewalk
is a regionally acclaimed centre for the arts housing four gallery spaces, a sculpture garden, coffee shop and facilities for room hire, printmaking and picture framing.

Ropery Hall is small scale venue for film, theatre, comedy and music.

The centre is situated slightly to the east of the Humber Bridge, on the southern bank of the River Humber. Stretching out towards the bank, at almost a quarter of a mile long, The Ropewalk was initially part of a rope making factory; opening in 1767, the factory eventually closed in 1989.

The Ropewalk is on one level with good wheelchair access; we are a 5 minute walk from the Barton Transport Interchange with half-hourly buses to Hull and Scunthorpe and a 2-hourly rail service to Grimsby and the wider rail network.

Directions

We are well signposted from the A15. Just follow the brown signs…
Exit the A15 at J.3 and take the A1077 into Barton (Ferriby Road). Turn left at mini roundabout at the bottom of the hill and follow the road round to the next mini roundabout and turn left again. Follow the one-way system through Castledyke West and get in the left-hand lane. Turn left at the junction opposite the railway station, then take the first right off Waterside Road onto Maltkiln Road. For The Ropewalk Galleries turn left into Tesco’s car park where you will find us in the far left corner. There is ample free car parking adjacent to the building. For Ropery Hall, follow the road round to the Waters’Edge park gates and then left into the car park. Please park at the end of the car park nearest Ropery Hall then walk to the first set of doors at the side of the building. For Sat Nav users please input DN18 5JR which will lead you straight to Waters’ Edge Car Park.
