Welcome to the latest edition of Airwaves. There are 3 big news items for you this time:



Launch of the Troubadour Music Book, Ray Burleys Long Road Home Book, and advance warning of Gordon headlining the Limerick Acousic Guitar Festival in August.



Troubadour Music Book:



I'm delighted to report that the launch of my TROUBADOUR book at PMT (Professional music and Technology) in Birmingham on Thursday the 12th of this month was a great success on all levels. The turn out was wonderful with the best part of 200 people supporting this special event in my life. Old friends, new friends and even newer fans helped to make this evening very special, and I know that my publishers Steve Marsh and his lovely partner Lesley were pretty overwhelmed by it all. The queue at the interval to purchase the book and Troubadour album appeared to go on for ever!



Special thanks go to all the staff at PMT for making this happen. Here's a name check...Gary Chapman,Trevor Buck, Keith Dudley,Oliver Priestly, Dave the sound man, Mark, and anyone I have forgotten, looked after us all really well laying on a super buffet for friends and ticket holders.



If you are ever find yourself in Birmingham and want to visit the biggest and best guitar store in the world do give this shop a visit. The details are of course on the date sheet of this site. Everyone there will make you welcome, just say 'Gordon sent me.' Their stock of guitars is massive and the deals they are offering are second to none, and of course the after sales service is superb. This kind of service you definitely DO NOT get on E-Bay...grin.

The Long Road Home:



Ray Burley's book of Gordon's pieces that mirror the material on his forthcoming album for Hypertension 'The Long Road Home' is now complete and published by Lathkill publications LMP119.



Raymond Burley is one of the UK's most experienced classical guitarists having performed countless solo recitals, concertos, on film scores, radio and television, and in virtually every possible guitar ensemble combination.



His partnership with Gordon, as one half of the duo Double Vision, has given him a classic insight into Gordon's music and has made him the ideal candidate for this unique project of offering these compositions in classical arrangements (presented in 'standard' tuning with the occasional dropped D).



There are 17 pieces in all, arrangements by Raymond Burley, for Solo Guitar. The presentation of this book is of top quality and is highly faithful to Raymond's wonderful recording of these works, which will be available shortly on CD.

Limerick Acoustic Guitar Festival:



On 24th August 2007, Gordon will be making a rare appearance in Limerick, when he headlines the Acoustic Guitar Festival. Running from 13th - 24th August it features 10 well known players, each giving a workshop in the afternoon, followed by a concert in the evening.



Gordon writes: The Irish Connection



"Toward the end of August, Hilary and I will be crossing the Irish sea to appear at the Limerick Guitar Festival. We always love our visits over there and completely absorb the whole atmosphere of the place.



I remember the first time I played at Wheelans in Dublin - some folk turned up and proclaimed 'we are the Dublin Giltraps' much to our joy and amazement. The Giltrap name is quite an unusual one and can be traced back to the early seventeen hundreds when the name Giltrap was first recorded. Of course the Giltrap name comes from my fathers side of the family, and my grandfather Edward Giltrap was born in the city of Cork and travelled with his family over to England when he was just the tender age of fourteen, when he joined the Royal Artillery as a boy soldier and eventually rose through the ranks to become a bugle major in the Artillery band. Many of you will remember my one liner about my grandfathers main instrument in the band being the Cello and the Trombone both of which he played simultaneously.... ha ha ha



My great grandfather I believe came from Bray south of Dublin, as far as I know there has always been a strong military connection with that side of the family, but to my knowledge my grandfather was the only family member to pursue a career in music, albeit in the direction of classical music. I have to say that it would have been good to know that somewhere way back, there may have been more musical Giltraps possibly embracing traditional music, but that may be stretching the romantic side of my nature too far!



The last time I played in Limerick was many years back at the university where the evening was fraught with disaster in the form of the Bose PA completely dying on one channel and me struggling manfully through the set on one speaker BUT, at the end of the evening the whole lecture theatre audience stood up to give me a standing ovation, and believe me that sort of thing doesn't happen very often, certainly not in the UK anyway, with us Brits being a more sedate polite bunch!



Hilary and I are very much looking forward to returning to the fair city of Limerick and playing at the festival.
