From Brush and Stone

Postby Sue » Tue Jun 10, 2008 11:17 am

Gordon has come up with an idea for the Brush and Stone album to have a vinyl edition as well as the normal CD release. He put the idea to Rick and the record company, as yet hasn't heard back from them BUT Rick thinks it's a great idea, and suggested that we put a sort of questionnaire on our respective sites to see what folks think, and if the response is positive, then that would give Voiceprint the incentive to do it.

To that end, Gordon is asking all his friends out there in cyberspace to vote if they would indeed buy a vinyl edition of this important and unique release from he and Rick. We look forward to hearing from you, and fingers crossed we can make this happen. It would look fabulous and would be a landmark event in the lives of Giltrap and Wakeman!

Please vote and leave comments here.
thanks

Oh yes, I think I'd snap up one of each...

...and I don't even have a record deck any more! How sad/mad/weird [delete as applicable] am I?

Sue,

Like Trevor, I no longer have a means of playing vinyl discs. However, I have retained my vinyl collection (including several of Gordon's discs) and would certainly buy the vinyl edition, particularly if it had extra features which made it different from the CD (apart from the obvious) such as enhanced sleeve notes/photos, was a picture or coloured disc, was signed and numbered etc etc.

Hope this helps.

Roger

Yes, some sort of special edition aspect would be fabulous - and increase desirability. I'm always very fond of Gordon's Electric-era singles which look like normal black vinyl but, when you hold them up to the light are actually a deep, translucent oxblood red. Cool!

You can't beat the 12 inch for making the most of album cover artwork!

I must say I do miss the days when you got a sense of owning something 'nice to have' when buying a record, and like many people in their '40s or over I remember poring over every detail of my favourite artists' gatefold sleeves.

But although I did buy a turntable and phono preamp a few years back to listen to my old vinyl, I wouldn't buy a new album on vinyl if I could get it on CD. The notion of buying a record for the packaging is a bit perverse, it seems to me.

Indeed the day is coming when buying music as a product represented by a physical medium will be a thing of the past. The writing's already on the wall for CDs, definitely.

I still have my trusty turntable, although it is a box in the loft but provided the belt hasn't turned into powder it should work nicely! I hanker after the vinyl days - I think there is more life in a vinyl than a cd recording but I do think that it is only the hard core of hi-fi and music enthusiasts that will keep the candle burning for vinyl.
