The Lights at Andover

Postby Bob Wilson » Sat May 12, 2007 7:13 pm

Hi Gordon
Despite the weather, what a great night! From the start you could hear a pin drop as you started with Maddie Goes West. The acoustics in the packed venue were spot on and it was clear that you enjoyed performing to this appreciative audience as much as they enjoyed your performance. We particularly enjoyed Three Legged Horse, Mrs Singer's Waltz and Rainbow Kites and with all the usual favourites and banter the time seemed to pass all too quickly. The updated version of the mesmerising Dodo's Dream was a joy (just when I've finished transcribing the original :( ) and the sound seemed even fuller than previous versions. You must get it on DVD or CD to give us guitarists half a chance to work the new version out  better still get the tabs out there.
It was good to catch up with Hilary after arriving early because of the rain and it was interesting talking to you about A Hint of Blue. Do you think this would transfer over to the Loop Station scenario as Dodo's Dream did. As you can probably tell, I'm searching for more tunes with the Loop Station since I was forced into getting one
Many thanks again for a great evenings entertainment. I hope you are this way again soon!
Best wishes to you both
Be well
Uncle Bob :) and Jane

Hi Bob.

First of all I have to say that it's always good to see you at one of my shows, and bless you both you have been to quite a few of late!

Last night did me the power of good. Great crowd, wonderful venue, great acoustics, warm and friendly staff, what more could an artist want eh!

My wish is to be able to just in the main concentrate on doing more of these quality type concert venues, and I believe that followers of my music desreve to hear my music in really good comfortable surroundings, and it may be the reason why when I do out of the way gigs at less than comfortable places the numbers are low. It's only a theory mind you!

Sorry about the ever evolving DODO but it's just one of those pieces that appears to have a life of it's own.

With regard to the pieces you mentioned, I shall definitely bear it in mind my friend.

Be VERY well both, and hopefully see you a the next show close to home.

Warm Regards.

Gordon.

Any chance of locating one of these comfortable venues near Gatwick Gordon? My wife and I would like to see you perform again soon, but family commitments mean we can't venture too far from home.

Cheers,

Mick

hi Mick.

Would love to my friend, but unfortunately I can't dictate where the gigs fall. I just hope you keep looking at that date sheet, and you never know.......

Be Well.

A great review of this gig was sent in to me by a good friend of mine, Nigel Bennett. I had introduced him to Gordon's music about a year ago, and this was his second GG experience.

Read the review here:

Hi Gordon
This sized venue suits your music so well. Tiered seating always appeals as everyone gets a good view and you are not just dot in the distance, you actually connect with the audience more freely. With all the Colleges and Specialist Music Schools about I'm sure there is a ready audience for one of your Workshops or Concerts. With Schools and Colleges needing to create extra funding I'm sure that any extra money would be very welcome. I know that when you did the Workshop and Concert at our College it created immense interest and the 250 seats were filled easily. Although we did it as an extra to the Young Musician Competition and not to create funding, the potential was there. Any PTA wanting to create extra funding would be well advised to consider a booking.
As for DODO, I had to transcribe it as anyone who wants to do it for Young Musician next year will need it in tablature and/or score for the judges. When I play it I tend to put down the main riff, strings and bass, and then improvise around your lead (I've even had the lead melody of Tubular Bells going on through it  ), I notice you don't use the metronome drum beat in the loop station, do you watch the timing lights or remember the timing from the delay?
Best wishes to you both
Bob
