Stourton Hall

Postby Bob Wilson » Sun Jan 26, 2014 6:35 pm

What a lovely setting for Gordon’s first concert of the year. Stourton Hall is in the grounds of the National Trusts Stourhead near Warminster. A beautiful place with a lakeside walks and beautiful statues and buildings dotted around, made famous by the small bridge in the film ‘pride and prejudice’ where the main character ‘Elizabeth’ meets with ‘Darcey’. Arriving early we were met by Gordon who was blown away by the beauty of the place. Unfortunately, although we were a little early, it was already too dark for us to see the beauty, but it’s near enough for us to visit regularly anyway. Gordon played me a couple of new pieces that he is writing and I have to say that we are all in for some beautul new tunes in 2014. Although Gordon was a little nervous because it was the first gig of the year he soon relaxed and was his usual jovial self with the perfect music for such a beautiful venue. The venue was sold out with not only locals but others that had travelled a long way to be at this first concert. (Good to meet Andy again). All the favourites were played including a flawless version of Splinter. It was the first outing of Gordon’s newest baby guitar a Paul Brett Vintage Baby. What a lovely sound this guitar has, so full for such a small instrument. Alas, it all ended too soon and after giving Gordon a hand with the packing with Eddie and Andy, we were on our way home. Thanks for such a great concert Gordon, hopefully they’ll get you back very soon (hopefully in the summer so that you can enjoy a walk in the grounds before the concert)
Be well all
