to be honest Roger, it sounds great with the strings it came with... it's just that some decent strings like Martins will make it sound even better. If you want a budget guitar, go for it. Comes with a 15W amp for mucking about on. A bargain in my opinion.

I've now got a replacement delivered very efficiently and quickly. I've had a chance to open it up and play it whilst my daughter is away. I am amazed by the quality of the guitar. It has a good tone, decent pre-amp and tuners. Body, fretboard and headstock all of decent quality. The strings aren't ...

In issue 11 Aug/Sep 2006 Acoustic Mag, there was a review of the Gear4Music's acoustic starter pack. It got incredibly good reviews.

thanks Russ. It's a surprise for her. I've never heard of Ashton guitars... I sometimes think I'm a naive guitar virgin.

I think she will want an electro-acoustic to plug into her PC so she can head-bang (well sort of...).

I change the whole set at once, and have never had any issues with neck stress. Even on my 34 yr-old 12-string I've changed the whole set at once. It enables an easier clean-up on the neck and body.

An electro-acoustic for £100?

My daughter (16yrs old) has taken an interest in guitar and keeps borrowing mine. Xmas is coming and she says she wants her own. So what should I buy her? I guess Russ will say something like "... you can get a fantastic guitar on ebay for £100, blah blah..." and you're right Russ. But she...

I definitely have it in mind to purchase a Fylde, either 6 or 12, but alas I can't afford it for a while whilst I'm building up some funds for my kids going through uni (i.e. the next 6 years!). Maybe someday a Fylde will be mine but then there are other things I want as well..... e.g. some decent r...

Gordon - your new 12-string Fylde

Gordon - it was fantastic to read in Giltrap news about your new 12-string fan-fret guitar on the Fylde website . The guitar looks beautiful and incredible and I am sooooo envious! It must have cost a packet. I'd be interested to hear from you on whether the technique has to be changed much to play ...
