Ash and The Billy Walton Band!

If any of you are in the area tonight.....I suggest you might like to get along to Mr Kyps in Poole. Ash's band are supporting the great Billy Walton. Billy is a giant on the Jersey Waterfont scene and has been a pro since he was 15, playing alongside Southside Johnny, the Van Zandts, and Springstee...

Gary Moore - RIP

I seem to be seeing posts like this more and more frequently these days - Yet again we pay tribute to the passing of a great musician. I couldn't believe it when I heard earlier of the death of Gary Moore. For me, and am sure many, GM was the last of the towering rock guitar icons - a dynasty starte...

Richard Thompson Band current tour

The three of us had a great night on Friday when we travelled up to Salisbury to catch the second night of the current RT Band tour. Needless to say, a fantastic line-up which included Micheal Jerome on drums and the legendary Pete Zorn on just about anything you can blow or strum!! The concert was ...

Thanks Jon. Still does it with up to 20db of pad applied on old strings. As I said, new strings, no problem? Weird eh?

Very sad news indeed. As he has been local to us for a number of years, we were aware of his worsening condition and his long stay in Bournemouth hospital. We were pleased to hear that he spent his final days at home with his loved ones.

guitar string mystery.

Here's a weird one...In the studio yesterday we were trying to record some electric rhythm tracks by micing up a valve amp cab. For some reason we kept getting a nasty clipping noise on the attack of every chord. You couldn't hear it from the speaker, only on the monitors or headphones. We tried sev...

Ash and 2011

Just to keep everyone up to date, apart from local gigs and a tour of the West Country this summer, Ash's band have some promising support slots on the cards. If all goes to plan, so far, this year will see The Blues Machine support; Dr Feelgood, Wilco Johnson, The Blockheads, The Manfreds, The Blue...

The Black Strat

You may be interested in a series of photos I took of Ash building his Christmas present. Earlier in the year Ash bought a CBS strat neck off ebay - birds eye maple, ebony board and brass nut...not sure of the make, but I suspect either Mighty Mite or Allparts. He had put this aside until the day he...

Funny you should say that Gordon because there are several ways in common that you two approach your music. Unlike many players, you both let the music do the talking and rely less on physical prowess in your playing, rather concentrating on technique to convey the lyrical qualities of your tunes. N...

Jeff Beck

Have any of you good people been to see Jeff Beck on the current tour? Ash and I went on the opening night of the UK leg and were blown away....not only by JB, but also by the support act, Trombone Shorty. Beck's band were sensational especially Rhonda Smith on bass although to honest, Narada Michae...

Needless to say, I was tempted. I'm now only too glad I forgot to put a bid in as it would have been dreadful if we'd been bidding against each other!!

So Gordon....what's the plan for it? With that flat fingerboard are you thinking of putting a 'slide' track on Dodo??

All the best,
Russ

Vintage signature.

I have just had the great pleasure of presenting Ash (at a minute past twelve!) with his GG signature Vintage for his sixteenth birthday!!!!! My god this guitar is something special.....I would think the other makers are quaking in their boots! To be absolutely honest and hopefully unbiased, I do be...
