Re: 40th anniversary of the Visionary
Visionary, PJ and FoTD are all remarkable albums in my opinion and stand shoulder to shoulder with anything else recorded in the 70s or any other time for that matter. Whether the music is stripped down to the basics ie Gordon alone on an acoustic guitar, or given the full band treatment, the compo...

A Bert Jansch track that you've never head before soon to be
I had an album to review this month by a chap called Colin Harper. He's quite a well known music journo but "Sunset Cavaliers" will be his first solo album. In the past he wrote a book about Bert Jansch called "Dazzling Stranger: Bert Jansch and the British folk and blues revival"...

Re: Soundwaves
Yes, it is an album of library music and largely contemporaneous with Airwaves. I've got some MP3s conversions of the tracks so I can listen quite easily on the iPod (in fact I'm listening to it right now!). The sound on the tracks is much the same as Airwaves, a full band arrangement but quite domi...

It's definitely worth hunting down. Some really good tracks on there. Re: Revelation
One more version to add to your listening list, Piotr. There's a bonus track on the Cherry Red reissue of Fear Of The Dark. "Revelation (Orchestral Version)". Not that different an arrangement to the original but some nice additional string parts. Very lush and rich sounding! Definitely wo...

Re: Dodo's Dream
I think the "difficult" part of its reception might have been in part due to the fact that it has a real folk roots feel to it compared to the "prog rock" style of its predecessors. I've read elsewhere about the jazzy stylings too. Jazz? What are they talking about it?... ...Doe...

Re: Dodo's Dream
You know something? I still love the original version on Peacock Party. It tends to be a bit overshadowed by the tour de force which is Gordon's looping extravaganza but it's a carcking track. Mind you, I also think that PP as a whole is a bit overshadowed in people's minds by the trio of V, PJ and ...

Re: VISIONARY (Esoteric CD) mastering / pressing fault?
The plot thickens! Thank you again for your detailed analysis. I think you might have just nailed this issue once and for all. Maybe you'll get the "Giltrap Award For Technical Excellence"? . Ha! Yes, it would look nice alongside my Giltrap Awards for Unhealthy Geekiness (I've won ...

Re: The best 70s Giltrap prog tune you've never heard
Being something of a completist where Gordon's items are concerned I bought a copy of this from Ebay quite a few years ago it was listed as follows: This rare 1979 MYRRH LP is by NUTSHELL who are :- MO McCAFFERTY - Vocals ANNIE McCAIG - Vocals PAUL FIELD - Vocals, Acoustic Guitar, Piano. Other musi...

Re: VISIONARY (Esoteric CD) mastering / pressing fault?
REVELATION: OK, so I've been doing some more forensic listening to the various CD versions of the track and I think I've come up with a theory. There are three CD issues of Visionary (et al). The first was released by BBC/Prestige in 1991 as a double set - two albums on one CD with Fear OF The Dark....

The best 70s Giltrap prog tune you've never heard
So you love the trilogy of prog albums that Gordon released in the 1970s (tetralogy if you include Peacock Party) but here is a Classic bit of Giltrap prog playing from that era that I'll bet you've never heard. The penny only dropped for me a few months ago when I suddenly realised that a tune I ha...
