The Blues Machine annual update.

Postby Russ Gannicott » Sat Dec 17, 2011 9:07 pm

Just thought I'd bring you guys up to speed with what's happened this year with Ash and the boys. The Blues Machine have enjoyed a busy year despite exam pressures and have even managed to release a new album 'More than ever' which has received great reviews and a fair bit of radio airplay. The band have played around forty gigs this year, but without doubt the highlights were the support slots with Doors Alive, Never the Bride, The Billy Walton Band and Dr Feelgood. In addition to these great gigs the lads also spent a week in Poland with some great gigs in the underground music clubs of Krakow.
They obviously made a good impression as there are some amazing offers coming in for next year including a short european tour covering Belgium, Holland, Germany and Poland, and even more amazingly an offer to go out to New Jersey. The New Jersey trip would cost us the air fares but everything else would be paid and would see the lads playing alongside and guesting with The Billy Walton Band, Southside Johnny and the Asbury Dukes and The E Street Band!
On top of this, Ash has had some interesting interviews and offers, and is currently working with a boutique FX pedal manufacturer to design a boost/overdrive pedal that would appeal to young blues players who want something a little more 'edgy' than the norm.
Since September the band has slowed down a l;ittle as Ash is now at sixth form studying for four A levels and Dan has moved to Croydon to attend the Brit school which is proving to be a life changing experience for him. In light of this 'slow down' Ash has put together a three piece acoustic project featuring another guitarist/ singer and a female lead vocalist. The band are called 'Fish out of Water' and are being compared to early Fairport/Pentangle - a great accolade indeed and something they are striving to live up to.
It has been fascinating to watch Ash - who is a highly acomplished electric player have to re-invent his playing style to come to terms with the acoustic guitar!! Mind you, he still manages to sneak a few effects in during his solos!!
So, that's about it. Thanks so much to all of you who have enquired about Ash's progress and offered your support both morally and in person throughout the year - it has meant a great deal to us all.

Have a great Christmas and a peaceful, prosperous and most importantly healthy and happy new year.
Best wishes, Russ, Carole and Ash.

Hi Russ and Carol.

Looks like our Ash is going from strength to strength. What is wonderful for us to read is the pride that shines through this posting, and quite rightly so too.

We who know the family understand the challenges that Ash has had to face outside of just practising for hours on end. It does my heart good to see a family fully supporting their son in this way.

With the support of his loving family Ash is following his dreams, and it looks as though some of them are coming true...HOW WONDERFUL.

One day folk will remember this young dude who eventually become one of the UK's premier blues guitarists.

Have a great Christmas you lovely Gannicotts.

Love.

G & H.x

Russ,

Super news about Ash! With our move and one or two other things the year has flown by, so apologies for not keeping in touch. Next time you're down at PJ's call in and see us!

In the new year I'll be putting the Wilkinson bridge, tuners etc on the cheapo Tele. Missed out on a Faith at Cashconverters for about £200 recently, and there was a leftie Rob Armstrong on ebay, but that went for over £800!

Merry Xmas to you, Carole and Ash,

Roger & Em x
