Re: Vintage VE2000GG 12 string - Four Years on

Just read your excellent and detailed review of the Voyage Air VAD04. I posted a reply with links to a couple of Youtube uploads which I'm sure you'll be familiar with - but others may not. If ever you think of taking a guitar abroad by plane and assume it will be OK ...... then take note of what ha...

Re: Voyage Air Guitar – VAD-04

Thoroughly excellent review Brad. And for that tiny minority who won't yet have seen the Youtube upload by SonsofMaxwell about what happened when a much-valued Taylor guitar was entrusted to the tender mercies of United Airlines in America ..... then watch this and enjoy - and weep . (Nearly 18 mill...

Re: Health Update Jan 2017

Just checking back into the forum to reply to one of Brad's comments and thought I'd ask how Gordon is now. I'm assuming he's well to being on the mend as his column still appears in 'Acoustic' magazine. How is he?

Re: Vintage VE2000GG 12 string - Four Years on

Hi again Brad, I'm back in the forum after a significant break. Following my wife's death in December 2016, I've been in the midst of the long process of sorting out, selling up, moving and then organising he renovation of a bungalow near to where my daughter and her family live. I hope to be moving...

Re: Vintage Viator

As an instrument it never ceases to astonish me. Not quite ready to go offline yet. I'm waiting for the date when I can move out, so I thought I'd just chip in a comment about the Viator. Since sorting out those problems that I described in a previous post (and which I illustrated in my Amazon revi...

Will be offline for a while soon

Hi folks - just to say that my occasional blasts of oddball or (hopefully) interesting posts will disappear soon for awhile. Following my wife's death in December I'm just about to move house to live nearer to my daughter and her family. Pretty well all my things will go into store until I've had wo...

Re: GOOD BUDGET GUITARS - sub £100 - let's not overlook them

A lot of unfair flak is sometimes directed at Squier guitars, but they can be very affordable and ideal for both beginner and for practise if you just want a guitar to have handy. Years ago I lashed out on a PRS SE but now also have a bog-standard Squier which I'll be tweaking with some Elixir strin...

Re: I'd never heard of Massimo Varini - have you?

I recently bought the CD+DVD 'My sides' by Massimo. It's truly superb. The DVD is an especially good bonus with a lot of material on it in three categories:- VIDEOCLIPS - His playing used as background music to videos VIDEO LIVE - In concert playing with his group and also with a singer STUDIO SESSI...

Re: Culling old vinyls can be an emotional experience

most of them warp over the years! Warping has never been an issue with my LP's or 45's. I've always kept them upright and tightly enough stacked to be accessible but mutually-supporting. No - my problem with 45's wasn't warping it was a young daughter with a cup of hot chocolate who, about 30 years...

Re: GOOD BUDGET GUITARS - sub £100 - let's not overlook them

No - my copy is the studio recording. I just looked it out in one of the Really Useful Boxes I bought to store the LPs I'm taking with me when I move house. My copy is titled 'Phil Manzanera / 801 Listen Now'. The cover is superb. It's dated April 1977 and was recorded at Basing Street Studios betwe...

Re: GOOD BUDGET GUITARS - sub £100 - let's not overlook them

Ahhh - Phil Manzanera. I'd forgotten his link to the Tele. I've recently been culling my LP collection but one past favourite I've hung onto is his original '801' release. Good list of guitars that should help anyone looking for such info - and useful to have acoustic and electric possibilities. Ma...

Re: GOOD BUDGET GUITARS - sub £100 - let's not overlook them

I have a Harrier Mistral, which cost £39.99 from ebay. It's a Tele copy. Not easily available now by the looks of it and I doubt a 'project' guitar would be right for someone just starting out or buying as a gift for someone to learn. It does look as if this make of guitar IS bought by people who w...

GOOD BUDGET GUITARS - sub £100 - let's not overlook them

It's all too easy and quite natural to want to discuss your own guitars, especially when they're really nice instruments. I've done it several times in this forum. But let's not forget that there will always be both young and mature folks who want to learn guitar or want to find out if the guitar is...

Andy Powers (Taylor guitars) playing and talking ... inspirational

I love Taylor guitars - not just for their quality and sound but also for the philosophies behind their design and manufacture. Before buying a fabulous 562ce 12 string, I watched a lot of Youtube uploads about how Bob Taylor has evolved his attitude to making guitars and how he came to decide that ...

Re: Taylor 562ce 12 string ... Is there such a thing as a civilised 12 string?

Yes - boat well and truly pushed out but without any qualms, regrets, doubts etc. etc. In my review I mentioned an unexpected buzzing on the 4th octave pair when I detuned one whole tone. That has now been resolved by the truly excellent dealership I bought from (Reidys in Blackburn). Richard Moss w...
