Rick Wakeman and Lancaster Priory Choir

Keyboard legend Rick Wakeman will perform at Lancaster’s historic Priory as part of the city’s music festival.

Rick, who is best known for being the former keyboardist in the progressive rock band YES, will play at two candlelit concerts in October.

He will be accompanied by the Lancaster Priory Choir and supported by the highly-acclaimed guitarist Gordon Giltrap on October 16-17.

Performing on grand piano and the Priory organ, Rick will play pieces from his long and illustrious career, from his early recordings with Cat Stevens and David Bowie to his bestselling solo albums.

Rick said: “I do love concerts that are different, and having the opportunity to perform at the Priory with such a wonderful choir and a great big organ just puts a huge smile on my face.”

Staging the event has not been without its problems, not least because of the layout of the Priory and the number of seats with views that are restricted.

Organiser Stuart Marshall said: “Obviously beautiful medieval churches such as the Priory were not built with concerts in mind, but we’re hoping to turn this problem into a positive outcome by using the concerts as a way of highlighting the difficulties experienced by the blind and partially-sighted within our community.

“We are delighted to be donating a proportion of ticket sales to Galloway’s Society for the Blind.”

Due to the limited capacity of this historic venue this is a FULLY VIP EVENT, with opportunities to meet and be photographed with Rick and Gordon after the event (using your own camera or smartphone).

There will be a bar run by The Borough pub and dining rooms selling Borough Brewery real ales and lager, wines and soft drinks before and after the concert and during the interval (pre-ordered only).
